Thora Birch

Thora Birch, born March 11 1982, is an American actress. Her film debut was in Purple People Eater (1988), where she won the Young Artist Award for "Best Young Artistress Under Nine Years old". Birch was a child-star who was in films like All I Want For Christmas (1991) as well as the Patriot Games(1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (94), Now and Then (1995) as well as Alaska (1996). The actress received a Young Artist Award for "Best Young Actress under Nine Years of Age." In 1999, Birch played Jane Burnham in American Beauty. This film resulted in an BAFTA nomination. After that, she starred in Ghost World (2001) as Enid. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Birch was nominated Emmy Award for her performance in Homeless To Harvard: The Liz Murray Story in 2003. Birch has also been a part of Dungeons & Dragons (2000) and The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004) and Dark Corners (2006). She was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2003. Birch was also the Whisperer Mary/Gamma during the season 10 episode of The Walking Dead (2019-202). Birch was the eldest child born to Jack Birch (and Carol Connors) in Los Angeles. Birch her family, which originally was named Biersch is German-Jewish as well as Scandinavian. She also has French-Canadian, French, and Italian heritage.  The name of her mother, Thora, originates from the Norse god of lightning and thunder "Thor" that would be her name when she was a boy. She has a younger brother, Kian Bolt Birch.Birch's parents were both former film actors who played in the movie Deep Throat. Because of their own experiences in the entertainment business it was difficult for them initially to promote Thora. But, her photo was seen by agents when a babysitter spotted her mimic commercials. Birch was just four years old when she received her first major break when her babysitter invited her on a audition for an Quaker Oats advertisement.
